WHAT IS ANXIETY?

Anxiety starts as a worry and turns to fear and becomes a chronic feeling of unease to extreme and crippling panic attacks.

There are different levels of anxiety, it is normal to be stress before an exam or an interview or even being in an accident, however when this feeling does not subside and causes us with our everyday’s activity, it becomes a burden and interfere with making rational and productive decisions.

It is normal to feel anxious when facing something new, difficult or dangerous and mild anxiety can have a positive and useful influence.

If you think about it, fear and excitement are experienced in roughly the same place: the gut. Think excited butterflies. But for some people, instead of friendly little butterflies, they have large birds of prey living inside their bellies.

Anxiety is often worsened by the fact that it is typically (but not always) associated with other psychiatric injuries such as depression. This is why having a physician’s approval is important — if a doctor feels that any additional help may be counter-productive to their patient’s health, then it is best to respect that decision.

Here’s a quick checklist to see if you could benefit from hypnotherapy to ease potential anxiety issues:

Q.  Does your anxiety interfere with your work, school, or family responsibilities?
Q.  Are you plagued by fears that you know are irrational, but can’t shake?
Q.  Do you believe that something bad will happen if certain things aren’t done a certain way?
Q.  Do you avoid everyday situations or activities because they cause you anxiety?
Q.  Do you experience sudden, unexpected attacks of heart-pounding panic?
If these symptoms are familiar to you, it is possible you suffer from an anxiety disorder.

Remember that anxiety is more than just a feeling, and don’t let anyone dismiss it as such if you are indeed a sufferer. As a product of the body’s fight-or-flight response, anxiety involves a wide range of physical symptoms. Because of these symptoms, someone who suffers from anxiety might mistake their disorder for a medical illness, and make numerous unnecessary trips to the pharmacy or doctor’s office. Therefore it is important to consult a physician and find out if the doctor will recommend hypnotherapy. You’ll always need a referral from your doctor to have an hypnotherapy treatment.
